First sentence that was pronounced concerning the case of journalist Jineth Bedoya

The 5th Specialized Court in Bogotá sentenced Alejandro Cárdenas Orozco, alias JJ, to 11 years and 5 months in prison for simple kidnapping and torture against journalist Jineth Bedoya which took place on May 25, 2000.

The court also ordered him to pay 90 statutory minimum wages fine.

Decision was pronounced by Court in the presence of a prosecutor belonging to the National Prosecutor´s Office specialized in Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law on September 6^th, 2011 after alias JJ pled guilty to kidnapping and torture charges. He did not plead guilty to rape offenses against the journalist.
