Preventive detention orders were issued against people who had links with the so called Oficina de Envigado

Preventive detention orders with imprisonment were issued by a municipal judge with supervisory functions (control de garantías) in Manizales (Caldas) against Elmeth Jesús Cuadrado Jiménez, alias El Costeño, and Carlos Armando Castaño Ortiz, alias Wilson, for almost 40 cases of extortion against farmers and businessmen in Antioquia, Cundinamarca, Tolima and Caldas. This was part of an investigation which was conducted by the Specialized Prosecutor `s Office against Criminal Gangs.

According to the investigation, arrested people had links with the so called Oficina de Envigado and when they committed extortions they identified themselves as members of the criminal gangs La Empresa and Los Paisas.

Cuadrado Jiménez  and Castaño Ortiz allegedly operated in sectors such as La Dorada and La Victoria (Caldas); Puerto Salgar (Cundinamarca), Mariquita and  Honda (Tolima) and  Sonsón (Antioquia).
