After two weeks of investigations to clarify the murder of four children belonging to the Vanegas Grimaldo family which occurred on February 4, 2015 in Las Brisas rural settlement, in Florencia (Caquetá), the Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett stated that the reason was a conflict for a 400 meters lot in Florencia and a revenge due to mutual aggressions. These investigations were conducted by the Office of the Attorney General, the Criminal Investigation Team (CTI) from the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police authorities.
“There is certainty about the facts, the modus operandi and people who participated since, in addition to the evidences submitted by the Office of the Attorney General and the National Police, it was possible to obtain a confession of one of the individuals involved in the murders”.
“According to technical analysis made to a phone call considered as suspicious, we were able to obtain a cross-check of the lines and based on this analysis the elucidation of the facts begins”, Stated Attorney General.
Besides the recordings of the phone calls legally obtained, the Attorney General highlighted citizens´ cooperation in the area where facts took place and the surviving child´s testimony to clarify this massacre. Two individuals have been arrested for this crime.
“The Office of the Attorney General will bring charges against arrested people for murder, criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and theft. Facts that will be attributed would imply up to 50 years in prison”.
During a proceeding, investigators found a buried motorcycle that was used in order to get to rural settlement were children were living. It was found in one of the perpetrator´s house. A computer that was stolen from Vanegas Grimaldo family that night was also found.
The Office of the Attorney General requested a judge to issue detention orders against other three people who allegedly participated in the massacre.
