Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo stated that investigations must be strengthened in order to clarify environmental crimes.
The senior official stressed that this work is not only responsibility of State. Companies and citizens must commit to protecting the natural resources of the country.
This statement was made during the second forum “Foro de Costos Ambientales, Avances, Retos y Desafíos” attended by the Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett; Auditor General, Laura Emilse Marulanda Tobón, and Delegate Ombudsman on agricultural matters and lands, Andrés Felipe García Azuero.
Perdomo said that this exercise will prevent the destruction of natural resources from the social, political and economic perspective. In this respect, he stated that the Attorney General´s Office conducts criminal investigations on subjects such as combating Wildlife smuggling, corporate environmental destruction and illegal mining.
Meanwhile, Auditor Marulanda talked about tax and environmental control in the country and he specified that it is a tool to assess public entities’ management that protects investments in environmental matters and evaluates actions to improve environment.
