The Attorney General´s Office will conduct an investigation in order to clarify the facts occurred in October 2nd during a school excursion in Amazonas river since one of the students died and ten of them were injured.
Likewise, in order to determine the responsibilities in the accident, the Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, ordered the Regional Directorate in Amazonas to carry out the expedited proceedings.
Camilo Burbano, National Director of the Accusatory System and Interagency Coordination stated that the Attorney General´s Office is conducting an investigation with the support of the child and adolescent unit (Unidad de Infancia y Adolescencia) and SIJIN authorities, concerning the alleged offense of manslaughter and is also gathering evidentiary material to determine the facts.
On the other hand, the Attorney General stated in a letter that was sent to the educational community affected by the accident that he asked the international management directorate (Dirección de Gestión Internacional) to contact the Attorney General´s Office in Perú in order to obtain immediate bilateral judicial cooperation since the incident involved a Peruvian motor vessel.
During this investigation, it is important to determine the responsibility of people who were driving the other motor vessel and also people who were in charge of the minors.
