During  the 2nd Colombo German Forum “Reconciliation, Responsibility and Memory, German Experiences and Colombian Perspectives”*  the Attorney General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, gave a talk about Challenges of Transitional Justice in Colombia, where he stressed the importance of investigating, prosecuting  and penalizing in the  post-conflict framework, always  seeking for a balance between justice and peace.

The Attorney General considered the need to determine the legal and political scope of this international obligation by preventing the impunity of damages against human rights, against humanity and war crimes, under the criteria of selectivity. It means to focus on the main responsible.

Under this model of justice which considers the international experiences in transitional Justice during last ten (10) years, Montealegre assured “ if we are going to negotiate a solution for armed conflict in Colombia and massive violations of human rights, the big challenge in addition to victims protection will  be another right, another  constitutional value to overcome armed conflict in Colombia such as: legal security.”

“As Colombian citizens, we have to create a legal security mechanism which implies that  all offenses investigated, prosecuted  and punished in the context of transitional justice that were committed by members of guerrillas, security forces, paramilitary members and all conflict participants, have a definitive closure in the politics field ”
