The Army Major Álvaro Alfredo Gamboa Quiroga was sentenced to 41 years and 6 months in prison for the murder of three street peddlers who were presented as criminals that were killed  during an alleged combat in western area of Medellin.

On march 21st, 2007 troops of the army brigade “Agrupación de Fuerzas Especiales Urbanas de la Cuarta Brigada del Ejército (Afeur)” which was led by the above prosecuted person, informed about the death of Jhon Andrés Gómez, Héctor Arley Peláez Chalarca and Carlos Andrés Herrera Mejía. According to the military report, the victims were surprised trying to assault a military checkpoint located in a small town in Medellin called San Cristobal.
