Today in Medellín (Antioquia), the Interim Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo Torres, handed over the findings on the expert report concerning the causes of Space building collapse which occurred on October 12, 2013 causing the death of twelve people.

According to the report, the construction company committed negligence, the concrete used had little resistance, no memories (support documents of the project) and structural drawings were reviewed and there was not the proper technical supervision of the project.

Next week, the Attorney General´s Office will hand down an indictment against Pablo Villegas Mesa, legal representative of the construction company  Lérida CDO; Maria Cecilia Posada Grisales, director of the project  and Jorge de Jesús Aristizábal Ochoa, structural engineer, for a manslaughter offense. An indictment against the Approved Inspector of Medellín, Carlos Alberto Ruiz will be handed down for the  crime of  breach of public duty (action).

The senior official also highlighted the work of the regional Prosecutor’s Offices of Medellin and Antioquia and stated that during the first half of this year, 800 arrests were conducted in this area of the country according to a court order.

He further stated that the Attorney General´s Office will work in coordination with the Mayor´s Office in Medellín and other local authorities to fight against organized crime in the central area of Medellin and other areas called “comunas” where violence has increased.
