Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo Torres, denounced a strategy to obstruct investigation concerning the comedian Jaime Garzón murder case.

During a visit to the city of Manizales (Caldas), Perdomo said there have been great advances in this job, but he emphasized that a strategy to obstruct investigation concerning the case of Garzón has been detected.

”Crimes to avoid the Attorney General´s Office to disclose information about the circumstances behind this crime have been committed; therefore, we are going to investigate new hypothesis” said Perdomo Torres.

According to the senior official, there are four people linked to the case. One person was convicted, another one who is a militiaman known as “Don Berna” has a preventive detention order and other two people, one of them, colonel Plazas Acevedo who was formally accused for this crime.

In this context,  the retired General Rito Alejo del Rio was heard in a free version hearing  and people who helped to obstruct the investigations who are possibly residing abroad are being searched.

Perdomo Torres emphasized that is clear for the Attorney General´s Office that  the murder of Jaime Garzón was a crime committed by paramilitary groups in collaboration with law enforcement authorities and he hopes that new evidences regarding this crime appear after the arrest of Colonel Plazas Acevedo.
