A man was sentenced to 57 years and 6 months in prison for killing his wife and his two children

The Second Circuit Court in Villavicencio (Meta) sentenced Jhon Arlex Ferreira Zapata to 57 years in prison for being  responsible for the murder of Sandra Liliana Méndez and their two and eight years old children.

A judge who has jurisdiction over this matter (Juez con funciones de conocimiento) accepted the arguments of the 21^st Regional Prosecutor´s Office belonging to the Unit on Crimes against Life and imposed this sentence considering the level of cruelty in the events occurred on June 24^th 2012 at Centauros neighborhood in Meta.  Police authorities came to the assistance after answering an urgent call from the community who heard screams coming from a house. When police authorities entered the house, they found the corpses of a 29 years old woman and her two children. Ferreira Zapata had a wound  in his neck as a result of a suicide attempt.
