Consular officers and people designated to be electoral juries who disseminate partial election results before the entity authorized by law, they commit crimes against the Colombian electoral system.
Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Jorge Fernando Perdomo, explained that the results of the recount of votes, in matters of voting abroad, cannot be disclosed according to the electoral laws. This is private information which can only be disclosed by the electoral authority on June 15.
Perdomo stated that if we consider that those who participate at the consulates are public servants or juries which fulfill transitory public functions, any disclosure of the results would constitute a type of offense. To reveal a secret or use reserved information can be considered an offense against the public administration. These are offenses contemplated in articles 418 and 419 from the Colombian Criminal penal Code.
Deputy Assistant Attorney General also stated that CTI investigators will be near the polling places in order to support people and handle citizen´s complaints regarding electoral frauds. He assigned over 100 prosecutors around the country to guide people and hear citizens’ complaints.
