On May 25, Nine thousand members of the Technical Investigation Team (CTI) from the Attorney General Office and 4000 prosecutors will handle citizen´s complaints on occasion of the first round of the presidential elections.
This action complements the plan developed this year by the prosecuting authority to fight against electoral and related frauds. The Attorney General’s Office assigned 104 officials at national level and twelve extra for the newly created sectional offices of Casanare, Guainía, Amazonas, Guaviare, San Andres and Vichada, which have been working to fight against this problem.
Camilo Burbano, National Director of the Prosecutor´s Accusatory Legal System said: “the company has a comprehensive plan to combat electoral fraud for the upcoming elections. It has been highlighted an elite group of 116 officials for the investigation of electoral frauds”.
The official stressed ” these people received a special training from the National Civil Registry, the Electoral National Council, UIAF* among other organizations which makes them specialists in electoral offenses.
He also he said, ” the Attorney General Office has assigned 9000 officials from CTI in order to be near the poll places as well as other 4000 Prosecutors.”
During this program, the Attorney General Office trained police forces on electoral offenses so that, they can be informed about what is the kind of evidence needed to prosecute any case.
