During installation of the Third Forum Analysis Oral accusatory penal system in the city of San Andrés, the Attorney General Of Nation, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, referred to the emergency plan in all regions of the country will start the Prosecutor for prevent and combat electoral offenses.

Montealegre Lynett stressed the importance of a permanent monitoring of the accusing entity on the eve of elections in the country when moving large sums of money to corrupt a voter. “We will be very careful to monitor all campaigns and for this reason this emergency plan that begins in February until Election Day and of course, in a possible second round.”

The Prosecutor’s Office formed an elite team with more than 100 officials with presence throughout the national territory. A total of 60 prosecutors and more than 40 designated judicial police officers to investigate all allegations and facts that put at risk the free exercise of the political rights of citizens, especially in areas of high risk of electoral fraud or where historically exist problems of transparency in the elections.

“We have received comments from the international community on these risk areas in the municipality of Soledad (Atlántico), on the Pacific Coast and in the eastern plains in Villavicencio. We’re doing a national risk map and make a presentation to each of the political groups with the Ministry of Interior and the National Police, “said Attorney General.

Among other crimes against the mechanisms of democratic participation, the electoral fraud, the votes fiddling, false registration cards and improper movements of money in election campaigns, generate major alarms for prosecutors and investigators.

The Attorney General also referred to the possible links of criminal gangs in the electoral process. “Our goal is to avoid and minimize any influence of gangs in the electoral process, drug trafficking and all the illegal armed groups.”

Thus the Attorney General’s Office is committed to the effective prosecution of electoral offenses ahead of elections for Congress and President to be held March 9 and 25 May respectively.
