Not it must become driving drunk in a crime because this position does not solve the problem, said the Attorney General of the nation, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, during the second Forum of Analysis Oral accusatory penal system, which took place in Paipa (Boyaca).

The official said it is “in favor of that there can´t be penalties for the conduct of those who drive intoxicated. The mere act of driving while intoxicated should not be a crime. There must be an administrative sanction. I think it is a success of the Congress. ”

However, when referring to the Bill that ended its initial passage in the Congress, said that the reform fell short because it limited only to an increase in penalties. “I think in the next legislature should return to present things to search for administrative solutions,” he added.

At this point, he stated that he is opposed to a criminal policy that is based on the increase in penalties. “I think that the Government should resume topic to look at administrative sanctions” such as suspension of driver’s license by long lapses, seizures of cars, extinctions of domain on certain assumptions, among others.

As for the deaths generated by drunk drivers, Montealegre was emphatic in stating that “it is already banned in the Penal Code. Even if it is rash actions, these behaviors may be referred to as fraudulent.
