Before seventh specialized court of Bogotá started the evidence phase of the trial that continues to José Miguel Narváez, former Deputy Director of Administrative Department of security (DAS), for the aggravated murder of journalist Jaime Garzón Forero, as alleged determiner.
At the hearing, Narvaez gave his testimony and denied his participation in the acts by which it is accused, questioning about statements of witnesses who linked the United self-defense forces of Colombia (AUC) and who claim to have instigated the paramilitary Chief Carlos Castaño to commit the journalist murder.
The critic and humorist murder was committed on August 13, 1999, on Quinta Paredes sector in Bogota, where two men intercepted him on a motorcycle at a stoplight and shot him five times.
Statements which will be heard in the coming days includes to Piedad Cordoba and Salvatore Mancuso, AUC commander demobilized and extradited to the United States.
