Six individuals allegedly linked to a drug trafficking organization to which a ton of coca was recently seized, were ordered held in pretrial detention pending trial.

The six people were captured by members of the Office of the Attorney General – Technical Investigation Team (CTI) of Colombia with support of the Colombian Navy, who were accused of smuggling, manufacturing and possession of narcotic drugs.

The detainees were identified as Carlos Alexánder Fernández Castillo, David Alfonso Flores Mendoza, Edwin Alberto Reyes Cardenas, Fabián Enrique Mendoza Herazo, Manuel Enrique Díaz Nieto and Stivenson Cuadrado Ramos.

The captures arose from the seizure of 995 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride in Cartagena, in October 2010.

The six men would be part of a drug trafficking organization, which was using legal export containers to smuggle drugs. To achieve the goal, they had contacts in the port companies and shipping companies who provided information of the countries and the ports where containers were going to arrive.

The drug arrived in parcels to Cartagena, where it was stored and then to introduce it to the container.
