Rafael Pérez Jubiz, former Director of Corporación Autónoma Regional del Atlantico (CAR) was sentenced to four years and two months in prison for embezzlement in favor of third parties, contract without compliance with legal requirements and breach of duty by the Sixth Deputy Criminal Court of the circuit of Barranquilla.

Facts investigated by the Office of the Attorney General of Colombia are related to the agreement between the CAR – Atlántico and the non-governmental organization (NGO) Environmental Agenda Association (Asociación Agenda Ambiental), in 2007, whose purpose was to carry out the sedimentation and the clearing of “El Sapo” slopes’ brook in Malambo municipality (Atlantico) for an amount of 58 million 300 thousand pesos. The contract was paid but it was not executed.

Judge’s decision took place after Perez Jubiz, on March 18, was subject to a plea deal by a prosecutor attached to the National Anti-Corruption Unit. In the same decision, the judge imposed a fine for 58 million 300.000 pesos.
