Íngrid del Carmen Martínez Blanco, Zaida Milena Benítez Sánchez and Yenis Hurtado Cardona were sentenced to 24 years and 6 months in prison for conservation of narcotics and weapons of exclusive use of the Colombia’s armed forces by the Second Criminal Court of the Circuit of Antioquia after endorsed the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office.
Those sentenced were captured on July 17, 2010 in a rural area of the municipality of San Pedro de Urabá (Antioquia), during an operation conducted by the Colombian National Police which allowed the seizure of 99 kilos of cocaine base and 4 rifles of different caliber. Due to the topographical difficulties in the area, the authorities used 4 helicopters as support.
According to the investigation, the above mentioned narcotics and weapons belong to a criminal organization that commits crimes between Córdoba and Urabá areas and is under the command of alias Raquel.
Martinez Blanco fled from a penitentiary in Monteria city. Benitez Suárez and Hurtado Cardona also escaped from their homes where they were serving a house arrest. The capture of the three fugitives was ordered.
