Mauricio Rangel Cifuentes, alias Escalera or Pedro, a nominated to benefits of the law of Justice and Peace, was captured by members of the Technical Investigations Team (CTI) attached to the Office of the Attorney General in compliance with a measure consisting of a remand in custody.
Rangel was detained in the premises of the Superior Court of the Judicial District of Bogota. The retention was determined by the alleged commission of the crime of terrorism, aggravated homicide, and forced displacement of civilians, rebellion and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The apprehended is a demobilized militant from the 22 front of the FARC, where he was the second Commander. His area of action was the municipalities of Caparrapí, Utica, Guaduas, Guayabal de Síquima, Villeta, Alban, Sasaima, Chaguani, Viani, Bituima, Facatativá and La Vega, towns in Cundinamarca Department.
At the time of the capture, Rangel was waiting for a hearing to be nominated to Justice and Peace benefits, which were rejected and lost, because he did not confessed all of the crimes that, as it could corroborate, he would have participated.
Therefore, the authority ordered his transferal to Central Penitentiary of Colombia La Picota.
