Colombia’s Attorney General Office opened its doors so that officers of the entity celebrate the Christmas Season in accordance with their religious worship.
After analyzing the political Constitution and in particular article 19 concerning the freedom of worship, the Attorney-General, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett, issued a circular in which underlines the right that all and every one of the officials have to “practice their religion freely and to disseminate it individually and collectively”.
“The sense is to reaffirm fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution. One of the greatest commitment of the Constitution of 1991 is to have given a very important step towards a secular State, towards the separation between religious and State conceptions, and undeniably, towards the freedom of worship, towards respect for religious freedom, respect for pluralism, free development of the personality, ” said the Attorney General referring to the sense of the decision.
In the circular, the head of the entity invited officials who practice different religious worship to send their suggestions to ensure that the entity supports them in the traditional activities of this time of year.
“We are at Christmas time: I want to send a clear message. As the Christmas Catholic celebration is going to be respected institutionally, I invite officials of the Attorney-General Office who follow different religions to let us know their practice through the Secretary General in order to provide them, in equal conditions, the same institutional spaces”, stressed the Attorney General.
