The career soldier Andrés de Jesús Jiménez Rico has been remanded in custody without benefit of release as alleged responsible for the aggravated murder of Laureano Bonivento Uriana, member of the Wayuu ethnic group.
The decision was taken by a Prosecutor assigned to the National Unit of Human Rights and IHL which investigates the facts happened on September 12, 2002. On that date, a 6th Marine Mechanized Infantry Battalion patrol went around the Pasajera settlement, Riohacha (Guajira) jurisdiction and the present defendant shot his rifle against the victim, who allegedly tried to attack him with a shotgun.
Four soldiers accused for the offence of aiding and abetting were not remanded in custody by the Prosecutor in the case, who refrained from imposing the measure.
