In the development of the institution policies to strengthen the investigative effort in order to comprehensively protect children, the Technical Investigation Team (CTI) of the Colombian Attorney General Office, has arrested at least, a rapist or child sex offender every day.

The figures show that between January and September of this year, the members of the CTI arrested 142 people involved in abusive carnal knowledge with a minor of 14 years and 152 individuals engaged in sexual intercourse with a child of 14 years.

The report notes that the city where more arrests of rapist are carried out is Bogota, where 33 cases have happened; i.e., in the mentioned period, it was detained a person every eight days for the perpetration of one of these two offences.

The situation in the rest of the country also draws attention. In Medellin, for example, statistics noted that 23 people were arrested and in a smaller city like Sincelejo, the CTI activities allowed the detention of 22 people involved in these punishable.

A Department where there are high levels of arrests for these crimes is Cundinamarca, where 20 apprehensions were materialized.

Some other figures indicate that in the capitals of the “Eje Cafetero” region, 35 individuals were detained and categorized as follows: Manizales, 19; Armenia, 7; and Pereira, 9.

With respect to other cities those arrested are distributed as follows:  Tunja (Boyaca), 17; Bucaramanga (Santander), 16; Ibague (Tolima), 18; Cali (Valle del Cauca), 12; Villavicencio (Meta), 13; Cúcuta (Norte de Santander), 9, and Neiva (Huila), 6.

Statistics also points out that in the country, 42 people have been arrested for abusive carnal knowledge, 10 for rape or sexually abuse to a person unable to resist and 4 arrested for incitement to prostitution.

In total, the CTI has arrested 359 persons for having committed crimes related to sexual freedom. This situation has led to the Colombian Attorney General Office to intensify and to strengthen duties through the Centers of Services and Comprehensive Investigation to the Victims of Sexual Offences, Sexual Abuse “Caivas” (in Spanish), whose prosecutors have only achieved 287 convictions this year in Bogotá.
