Before the Fifth Circuit Criminal Court in Pereira, acting as Presiding Court, the Prosecutor’s Office has accused Wilmar Albeiro Vera Zapata, former dean of the Faculty of Communication of the Catholic University in Pereira city as possible determiner of the murder of the candidate to the municipality of Pereira, Alexander Morales Ortiz.

Likewise, Wilson Espinosa Marin and Jilder Antonio Aricapa Motato, alias El Indio, has been accused as accessories for aggravated murder and illegal possession of personal defense weapons. According to the investigation, the first individual was the alleged contact between the determiner and the perpetrator, while the second would be responsible to transport the hired assassin.

The case happened in a restaurant in downtown of the capital of Risaralda Department, on March 18, 2011, when Carlos Andrés Velásquez Villada, who accepted charges and is awaiting his sentence, went in to the business and shot several times at the head of the politician, 27 years old.

After a chase, the perpetrator was captured by agents of the National Police in Dosquebradas town (Risaralda). Velásquez Villada had in his possession, two revolvers caliber 38 and 1.125.000 cop. in cash, which were found by the authorities.

In accordance with the Prosecutor’s Office, Section 22°, the motive of the crime was the money that Vera Zapata had invested in a business of transporting coal, which Morales Ortiz, his former student and friend, he proposed, but that failed and the deceased did not how to response him.

During a pressing hearing, the Prosecutor’s Office revealed more than 30 evidence materials, testimonies and documents, which will lead to the preparation hearing scheduled for next December 7.

All defendants are deprived of freedom in different prisons in Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda departments.
