A Prosecutor assigned to the National Unit against Terrorism has issued an indictment against 11 individual that allegedly had links with the “Elmer Cárdenas” block of the self-defense group AUC commanded by Fredy Rendón Herrera, alias “El Alemán”.

According to the investigation, the present accused were part of the so-called “Pact of Marizco”, Margen Izquierda de Córdoba, whereby from 2002, the illegal armed group had political influence in Moñitos, Canaletes and Los Cordobas, among other municipalities.

In accordance with the decision taken by the judicial officer the defendants: Alfredo Fidalgo Arrieta López, Bonifacio Contreras Díaz and Pedro José Martínez Humánez will respond to their alleged responsibility in court for aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes, in the category of promoting and financing illegal armed groups, and the aggravated murder of Saúl Pérez Díaz committed on August 1st, 2003 in Los Córdobas rural area, whose mayoralty he aspired.

Martínez Humánez has accepted his responsibility for aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes, punishable by which the following people were also charged: Anaris Muñoz Vera, Saúl Carreazo Silgado, Shirley Daisy Eljade Mercado, Óscar Darío Álvarez Domínguez, Isaías Martínez Castro, José Félix Martinez Bravo, Mario José Buendía Vásquez and Jesús González Doria Noah.

In her ruling, the Examining Prosecutor has certified copies in order to investigate: Catalino Segura Moreno, Otoniel Segundo Hoyos and José Abel Benavides Murillo, nominated by “Élmer Cárdenas’ block”, to commit possibly the offense of perjury.

Finally, the judicial officer has precluded Juan Antonio Jabib Flórez’s investigation for the murder of Pérez Díaz. Jabib Flórez had recourse to plea bargaining for the offense of aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes. The two women accused are in house arrest in Monteria and the other defendants are in La Picota prison in Bogota.
