Ever Moreno Navas, responsible for the murder of the trade union leader Ricardo Ramón Paublott Gómez, has been sentenced to 45 years and 10 months in prison by the 56th Judge of Criminal Circuit of Barranquilla, acting as Presiding Judge, under a public prosecutor’s request.
At oral trial, it was proven by a prosecutor’s office that Moreno Navas committed aggravated homicide, manufacture, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition, and aggravated theft.
The investigation has been motivated by facts that happened in La Cordialidad neighborhood in Barranquilla, on January 26 2012, when Paublott Gómez, member of the National Trade Union of Workers of the Food Industry (in Spanish: Sinaltrainal) was gunned down by men who attacked the public service vehicle where the victim was transported.
The convicted was apprehended by the Colombian Police shortly after Paublott Gómez’s murder. The Moreno Navas’ defense lawyer appealed the Presiding Judge decision.
