The National Unit of Human Rights and IHL prosecutor announced a remand in custody against 5 noncommissioned officers and 16 “professional soldiers” for their alleged responsability for aggravated homicide and aggravated forced desappearance.
The investigation carried out by the Attorney General Office determined that on May 10, 2006, the General Carlos Bejarano Muñoz , 17 Engineer Battalion troops shot in an alledge combat to Yamir Verbel Paternina and Jorge Eliécer Barbosa Reales, in the area of Dabeiba municipality, Antioquia department. Victims who were contacted in El Pozón neighborhood, Cartagena city, were taken to the mentioned area by false job offering.
After six months, on November 24, the current defendants were involved in the allegedly homicide of Yoner José López Sarmiento, committed in Dabeiba area. Also, López Sarmiento was living in El Pozón.
Noncommissioned officers remanded in custody are: Luis Segundo Iriarte Tinoco, Yon Andrés Rincón Salgado, Wilson Martín Morales Ayala, Carlos Eduardo López Castañeda and Carlos Arturo Sierra Passo.
Likewise, the above prosecutor, who examined the case, accused to Morales Ayala, López Castañeda and Sierra Passo for allegedly committed the offense of forgery in public document.
During the investigation, one of the involved agreed to accept a plea bargaining.
