A preventive detention without Releasing Benefit pronounced by a Human Rights and IHL prosecutor defined the judicial status to the defendant Jorge Luis Alfonso López, former mayor of Magangué (Bolívar) for the alleged co-responsibility in the offence of aggravated homicide.
The decision taken by the prosecutor leading the investigation is related to the murder of the journalist Rafael Enrique Prins Velásquez, killed on February 19, 2005 in the said city.
The arrest of Alfonso López was carried out in August 2nd, 2012, early in the morning, when units of Colombia National Police ‘Jungla’ Team arrived to the farm located in Pitalito area, Polo Nuevo district (Atlántico), where the defendant was found and now imprisoned in La Picota prison in Bogotá.
