Enrique Low Murtra Medal of Merit was official through Decree 1684 of 1993 in which the President of the Republic created this award to acknowledge the virtues and services of officers and employees of the institution and to encourage honesty, devotion, perseverance and improvement of these servants.
Ten years after, Decree 2886 of 2003 signed by the President of the Republic Álvaro Uribe Vélez, amended the above mentioned decree and created a meritorious single category to the service when the “Consejo de la Medalla” considers that there are situations in which officers excel beyond the investigation field, actions undertaken because of his function, or because their outstanding performance.
