In this action, seven people were killed, one was injured and another managed to protect himself from the attack.

The evidence collected by the Attorney General’s Office allowed the identification and prosecution of four alleged members of the criminal group ‘El Mesa’ who were allegedly responsible for the murder of seven people in the rural area of Rionegro (Antioquia).

People involved are María Camila Rendón de León; Johan Tavares Osorio, alias Salchicha; Andrés Felipe Valencia Barceló, alias Pipe; and Felipe Osorio Álvarez; alias Muelas.

A prosecutor belonging to the Territorial Support Directorate of the Delegate Office on Territorial Security charged them with aggravated homicide, attempted homicide; manufacture, trafficking, possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition; and exclusive use of the Armed Forces. They did not plead guilty to the charges.

Last June 25, a group of armed men entered the building located in El Hoyito area, where they fired indiscriminately at the people who were there. As a result of the illegal action, six citizens died and one was transferred to a medical center where he died.

The evidence shows that members of the so-called ‘El Mesa’, among whom are those now prosecuted, had planned this collective homicide. It is believed that María Camila Rendón de León’s house, located at San Antonio de Pereira, was the place where the multiple murders were planned.  They left in two cars and two motorcycles from this place.

Two cars and a motorcycle arrived at the place where the assassination was carried out, and another vehicle waited on the road. The three accused men, in the company of other people, allegedly entered the building. The woman allegedly carried out the surveillance.

It is believed that Tavares Osorio, Valencia Barceló and Osorio Álvarez were the ones who attacked with firearms, including rifles, the seven victims who were in the living room of the property. Once the crime was committed, the attackers allegedly fled to María Camila Rendón de León’s house, located in San Antonio de Pereira.

‘Salchicha’ and ‘Pipe’ were arrested by the National Police in a house located in Soacha (Cundinamarca) and Rendón in Medellín (Antioquia) during two search warrants. For his part, ‘Muelas’ was arrested last July for another homicide that also took place in Rionegro.

The Attorney General’s Office is moving forward with the hearings to request precautionary measures against the four defendants.
