At the request of the Attorney General’s Office, a judge in Roncesvalles, Tolima, imposed a prison sentence on Edwin Camilo Moreno Montealegre for his alleged participation in the murder of a retired officer from the Army. The facts took place during a robbery that occurred on September 19 in Ibagué.
A prosecutor from the so-called Unidad de Vida charged the defendant, 39 years old, with homicide; illegal manufacture, trafficking and possession of weapons, and attempted qualified theft, all aggravated conducts. He did not plead guilty to the charges.
Moreno Montealegre apparently shot the retired major while he was in the company of his minor son. According to the investigation, the deceased victim opposed the theft of a chain.
Once the crime was committed, the suspect fled with another person on a motorcycle and later entered a house where he changed his clothes, leaving several items that will be taken into account during the investigation.
