Clarification of femicide crimes in the Departments of Atlántico and Bolívar rose to 80% and in the Department of Magdalena reached 100%. 

The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, in his visit to the Branch Office in Atlántico, reiterated the prioritization of investigations and prosecutions of crimes that affect women and children and teenagers and he also highlighted the results obtained during the last eight months.  

Prosecutor Barbosa announced that three elite groups are in charge of continuing with the fight against violence against women which has allowed the clarification of 80% of the cases of femicide reported in the Departments of Atlántico and Bolívar, and 100% in Magdalena. 

“This Office of the Attorney General, who works for women, for children, for  teenagers and works for public safety, speaks with results” said the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, at the end of his meeting with the sectional directors.  

The Attorney General Barbosa announced that in the last hours, members of the Technical Investigative Corps (Cuerpo Tecnico de Investigación CTI) of Bogotá, arrested Miguel Camilo Parra Niño, who was hiding in a property in the municipality of Fusagasugá, and who is accused of the attempted femicide of his sentimental partner that took place in Usaquén, Bogotá. An anonymous source revealed his location. 

This man was searched by the authorities for the crimes of attempted aggravated femicide and domestic violence.

The CTI investigations determined that on October 16, Parra Niño had a discussion with the victim and injured her head with an axe. On October 17, the alleged aggressor fled to the municipality of Mosquera (Cundinamarca) changing his physical appearance by cutting his hair and beard. Also, he stayed in a hotel that day.  

Parra Niño was transferred to the Immediate Reaction Unit (Unidad de Reacción Inmediata URI) in Puente Aranda, Bogotá to be examined by the Institute of Legal Medicine (Instituto de Medicina Legal). Later, he was brought before the courts located in Paloquemao to appear for a hearing*  

Results in Atlántico 

So far this year, there have been 10 victims of femicides in the Department of Atlántico (in Barranquilla and the municipality of Soledad). Regarding this issue, the Branch Office has assigned special units of investigators and prosecutors to prioritize investigations and obtain results. 

The judicial police information has shown that criminal acts have occurred in domestic, family, work and school contexts; being the majority of crimes committed by the partners or former romantic partners of the victims, whose ages range between 16 and 41 years. 

  • A case in Barranquilla: Deimer Eduardo Díaz Mendoza was charged with aggravated femicide. The defendant, who was arrested in Bogotá was allegedly responsible for the femicide of Daniela Espitia Flórez, whose corpse was found in a hotel located downtown Barranquilla. 

Results in Magdalena 

So far this year, eight feminicides have been reported in the Department of Magdalena. One of the victims is member of the LGBT community whose gender was female. In this case, the alleged perpetrator was identified, and it is expected that his arrest to be in the next few hours.  

The investigations have shown that Santa Marta, and the municipalities of Plato, Pivijai, Fundación, El Banco and Ciénega have been the places where these acts of violence against women for gender reasons have taken place.  

  • A case in Magdalena: Ariadna, a member of the LGBT community, whose corpse was found by her relatives on the floor of her room. According to investigations, a man stabbed her with a knife 58 times in her house, located in the Cristo Rey neighborhood (south area of Santa Marta)
