The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, revealed that seven soldiers of the National Army were brought before a supervisory judge for participating in the sexual abuse of a girl from the Embera indigenous community, rural settlement of Santa Cecilia in Pueblo Rico (Risaralda).
Attorney General pointed out in Cali (Valle del Cauca) that the soldiers were charged with aggravated abusive sexual intercourse with a child under 14 years old, six of them as perpetrators and one more as an accomplice. The defendants pled guilty to the charges.
“In less than 72 hours, with the cooperation of different authorities and in an action led by the Delegate Office on Public Safety and the Branch Office in Risaralda, a conclusive result was produced in a painful event for Colombian citizens” stated Prosecutor Barbosa.
More than 40 investigations ordered by the Office of the Attorney General were decisive in bringing actions of soldiers to light. The soldiers were assigned to battalion known as ‘Batallón de Alta Montaña’ of National Army in Génova (Quindío) which supported Batallion ‘Batallón de Artillería San Mateo’ based in Pereira.
