The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, was at the temporary refuge of the Administrative Department of Environmental Management (Departamento Administrativo de Gestión del Medio Ambiente (Dagma) in spanish) located in the north area of Cali where lion named Jupiter was transferred to.
The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, announced in Cali the appointment of Jeisson Andrés Moreno Prieto as new coordinator of the Special Group on the fight against Animal Abuse (Grupo Especial para la Lucha contra el Maltrato Animal (Gelma) in spanish).
The statement was made in the afternoon when the Attorney General was at the temporary refugee of the Administrative Department of Environmental Management (Dagma) where lion Jupiter was transferred to.
Attorney General Barbosa referred to an investigation that was opened in order to determine what happened with the removal of the feline to the Department of Córdoba where he remained for two years and its health became deteriorated. “The Attorney General supports the respect for our animals. In the country, there are regulations that apply to those who mistreat our animals”, he said.
New coordinator of Gelma group
When Jeisson Andrés Moreno Prieto was introduced as the new coordinator of the Special Group on the Fight against Animal Abuse (Gelma), the Attorney General highlighted the importance of dealing with accuracy crimes related to violence against those beings, in addition to issues such as care and protection of native species in the country.
“Our new coordinator, who is also a veterinarian, lawyer and has worked in the institution for 13 years will be in charge of case of lion Jupiter “, stated the Attorney General and then, he highlighted that specialists will join the institution to deal with this kind of facts. “This case, with all the particularities, will be in charge of this group”, he concluded.
The new coordinator, Jeisson Andrés Moreno Prieto, holds a Law degree from Universidad La Gran Colombia. He is a zootechnician veterinarian doctor from Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales (UDCA) and he majored in environment studies from Universidad de Los Andes.
