The military leader of “Los Urabeños” criminal gang in Norte de Santander, Volmar Hernando Claro Torres, alias El Mico, 29 years old, was captured by (CTI) after it began a rapprochement process to submit to justice. With him were arrested the principal military leaders of this paramilitary group in that Department.

Torres had decided to submit to justice since the first week of September of 2013 when alias Macario, “Los Urabeños” leader in the region was killed in a police operation. A police captain and eight paramilitary fell dead in that action.

The head of the National Attorney Unit against criminal gangs, Luis Gonzalez, said that from that moment began a series of deaths against municipal leaders from each of the factions of Los Urabeños who commit crimes in the area. These killings would be led by Carlos Andrés Palencia, alias Visage, who succeeded Macario.

At that time, Claro Torres reported that he would meet with several of his local commanders, so that the prosecution, in a joint action with the police and army, mounted the action that led to the arrest of 17 los Urabeños municipal leaders in Norte de Santander, including alias Pateburro maximum in the town of Villa del Rosario, and alias Fercho, the greatest boss in the municipality of Los Patios.

Many of the detainees have arrest warrants by Attorney Office, said Luis González, who added that “we have information on the site where you will find alias grimaces”. This operation was carried out in Maquillales village at Cúcuta (Norte de Santander). In total, have been captured over the past two months 57 members of Los Urabeños in Norte de Santander.

Alias The Mico, despite his youth, has an extensive tour of several criminal organizations. It started in the Catatumbo Bloc, then moved to the “Aguilas Negras”, thence to “los Rastrojos”, later formed a cooperative informal surveillance, then the AUC Nortesantandereanas and finally was the military leader of Los Urabeños in Norte de Santander.
