At the request of the Office of the Attorney General, a judge ordered a prison\u00a0sentence\u00a0against three men accused of extorting rural communities in\u00a0Cimitarra\u00a0(Santander).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Judicial police\u00a0activities\u00a0revealed that on January 26, in\u00a0San Juan de la\u00a0Carrilera\u00a0area\u00a0in\u00a0Cimitarra, during raids carried out by the Office\u00a0of the Attorney General\u00a0and\u00a0the National Police,\u00a0the citizens\u00a0Yorman Felipe G\u00f3mez\u00a0G\u00f3mez, Alejandro Santamar\u00eda Viana, Manuel Asdrubal George P\u00e9rez, and Luz Celci Ruiz Moreno were\u00a0arrested. The latter was released but\u00a0remains\u00a0linked to the case.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The authorities found and seized a fragmentation grenade for military use, ammunition for military use, firearms ammunition for personal use, a shotgun and pamphlets with extortion threats against the rural population.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, a local prosecutor charged the defendants with manufacturing, trafficking, and possession of weapons, restricted-use ammunition or explosives reserved for the Armed Forces, and extortion. None of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
