The containers were modified, loaded in a warehouse near the maritime terminal, and returned to coordinate their shipment to international destinations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Office of the Attorney General, through the Directorate\u00a0specialized\u00a0in the fight\u00a0against Drug Trafficking, brought Rafael Jos\u00e9 De La Cruz \u00c1lvarez, alias\u00a0<\/span>Luxury<\/span><\/i>, and Jaime Llerena Guti\u00e9rrez, alias\u00a0<\/span>El Gordo<\/span><\/i>, before a judge. Both are alleged members of a criminal network accused of altering refrigerated containers to load them with cocaine hydrochloride and ensuring their departure through the port of Barranquilla (Atl\u00e1ntico)\u00a0 for Spain and the Netherlands.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both\u00a0were charged with the aggravated trafficking, manufacturing, or possession of narcotics, and must\u00a0serve a\u00a0prison\u00a0sentence. They did not plead guilty to the charge.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to\u00a0the evidence, the containers were taken to properties\u00a0located\u00a0outside the port,\u00a0modified\u00a0to adapt hidden compartments in which the illegal organization concealed various quantities of cocaine, and later returned to the maritime terminal to coordinate their departure to Europe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this regard,\u00a0\u2018<\/span>Luxury\u2019\u00a0would\u00a0<\/span>be responsible for\u00a0the entire logistical\u00a0process\u00a0and acted as the\u00a0manager\u00a0of a warehouse\u00a0used\u00a0to carry out the contamination process of the containers. Security camera records\u00a0show\u00a0him permanently at that\u00a0place. Meanwhile,\u00a0\u2018<\/span>El Gordo\u2019\u00a0would be involved in the transportation\u00a0of the containers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the investigation, 365 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride were seized from this structure in two procedures carried out in M\u00e1laga (Spain) and Rotterdam (Netherlands).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
