Based on the evidence and proofs provided by the Attorney General’s Office, a judge imposed a prison sentence on Venezuelan citizen Jeider Mar\u00edn P\u00e9rez, an alleged member of the AK-47 criminal group who allegedly detonated a grenade on April 28 in a shopping center in C\u00facuta (Norte de Santander).<\/span><\/p>\n

It is believed that the attack, in which three people were injured and caused significant property damages, would be a retaliation by the criminal group, which operates at the service of the illegal organization \u2018Tren de Aragua\u2019, against the owner of a specific business who had refused to pay extortion to operate in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mar\u00edn P\u00e9rez is accused of throwing the explosive device and fleeing the scene. This can be proved, by several security camera videos collected in the commercial area. However, National Police managed to locate and arrest him when he fled.<\/span><\/p>\n

Therefore, a prosecutor appointed to the Directorate specialized in the fight against Criminal Organizations charged the foreign national with attempted aggravated homicide, terrorism, aggravated criminal conspiracy, and manufacturing, trafficking, and possession of weapons and restricted-use ammunition for the exclusive use of the Security Forces.<\/span><\/p>\n

The defendant did not plead guilty to the charges.<\/span><\/p>\n
