{"id":43608,"date":"2025-02-03T09:33:19","date_gmt":"2025-02-03T14:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=43608"},"modified":"2025-02-04T11:30:54","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T16:30:54","slug":"two-people-who-would-be-involved-in-illegal-mining-in-mistrato-risaralda-were-prosecuted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2025\/02\/03\/two-people-who-would-be-involved-in-illegal-mining-in-mistrato-risaralda-were-prosecuted\/","title":{"rendered":"Two people who would be involved in illegal mining in Mistrat\u00f3 (Risaralda) were prosecuted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Attorney General&#8217;s Office prosecuted <strong>Norberto de Jes\u00fas Villa Rivera and Sebasti\u00e1n Villa Giraldo who, apparently, engaged in illegal mining activities<\/strong>, in search of gold in the Risaralda River as it passes through the so-called R\u00edo Arriba in the municipality of Mistrat\u00f3, an area considered a forest reserve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>A prosecutor appointed to the branch office of Risaralda (<i>Seccional Risaralda<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>) charged the defendants with illegal exploitation of mining deposits and other materials.<\/strong> They did not plead guilty to the charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both people were arrested on January 28 in the rural area of R\u00edo Arriba (Mistrat\u00f3), by officers of the Technical Investigative Corps (Cuerpo T\u00e9cnico de Investigaci\u00f3n CTI), the National Police and the National Army.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The Attorney General&#8217;s Office determined that the activities in which Villa Rivera and Villa Giraldo were prosecuted were carried out without a mining title or environmental license<\/strong>. Experts determined that there were serious environmental damages to the ecosystem, especially to Risaralda river, the main waterway in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Office of the Attorney General makes this information public for reasons of general interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The information contained in this press release corresponds to the narration of the objective news provided by the officials in charge of carrying out criminal investigations within the Office of the Attorney General.
