{"id":43567,"date":"2025-01-29T09:43:09","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T14:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=43567"},"modified":"2025-01-29T12:01:06","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T17:01:06","slug":"two-men-who-allegedly-extorted-a-merchant-were-arrested-in-meta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2025\/01\/29\/two-men-who-allegedly-extorted-a-merchant-were-arrested-in-meta\/","title":{"rendered":"Two men who allegedly extorted a merchant were arrested in Meta"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the request of the Attorney General&#8217;s Office, a judge imposed a prison sentence on <strong>Wilmar Noe Rodr\u00edguez Pe\u00f1a and Jos\u00e9 Neyl Rangel Ocampo, for their alleged responsibility in making illegal economic demands on a merchant in Acacias (Meta)<\/strong>, since July 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Office of the Attorney General charged them with <strong>aggravated extortion with attempt.<\/strong> They did not plead guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rodr\u00edguez Pe\u00f1a and Rangel Ocampo were arrested in flagrante delicto, on January 23 in Bogot\u00e1 by officers of the Technical Investigative Corps (CTI) with the support of\u00a0 Gaula- National Army of Meta while they were going to receive the money derived from extortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the investigation, <strong>the merchant received phone calls from people who identified themselves as FARC members, who allegedly demanded the payment of 80 million COP in exchange for not harming their physical integrity and that of their employees.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Rodr\u00edguez Pe\u00f1a&#8217;s suggestion, who was known by the victim, the merchant decided to pay the amount that was demanded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The information contained in this press release corresponds to the narration of the objective news provided by the officials in charge of carrying out criminal investigations within the Office of the Attorney General.
