{"id":42699,"date":"2024-08-19T10:36:49","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T15:36:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=42699"},"modified":"2024-08-20T11:13:30","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T16:13:30","slug":"a-man-was-sentenced-to-34-years-in-prison-for-the-disappearance-of-five-peace-signers-in-narino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2024\/08\/19\/a-man-was-sentenced-to-34-years-in-prison-for-the-disappearance-of-five-peace-signers-in-narino\/","title":{"rendered":"A man was sentenced to 34 years in prison for the disappearance of five peace signers in Nari\u00f1o"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prosecutor&#8217;s Office also obtained a guilty verdict against the person responsible for the attempted murder of a peace signer in Putumayo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The evidence presented by a prosecutor from the Unidad Especial de Investigaci\u00f3n &#8211; UEI (Special Investigation Unit), allowed a judge to sentence Jorge Eli\u00e9cer Garc\u00eda Estupi\u00f1\u00e1n to 34 years in prison for the crimes of forced disappearance and aggravated conspiracy to commit crimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prosecutor&#8217;s Office demonstrated that Garc\u00eda Estupi\u00f1\u00e1n, alleged member of the criminal structure Los de Vaca or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Resistencias Unidas Campesinas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RUC), participated in the forced disappearance of five peace signers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The facts took place on October 14, 2017 in Isup\u00ed, El Charco (Nari\u00f1o). The victims were held prisoner by armed men who accused them of failing to comply with the orders given by this criminal network in the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The investigation determined that the peace signers were tied by the hands and taken to a river. Since then, their whereabouts are unknown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Attempted murder of a peace signer<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ferney Andr\u00e9s Cuaspur Chacua pleaded guilty, in a preliminary agreement, to attempted homicide (aggravated) and; manufacture, trafficking and possession of weapons, ammunition for restricted use, for the exclusive use of the armed forces or explosives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the investigation, the convicted person participated in the attempted murder of the peace signer Leidy Lorena Pasu Ceromeca. The facts took place on November 16, 2023, in Mocoa (Putumayo).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The peace signer was attacked by the convicted man who shot him when he was at his home. The victim was taken to a medical center, where he was saved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A specialized criminal judge in Mocoa approved the judicial agreement and sentenced him to 9 years and 1 month in prison. He was also disbarred from exercising public functions for the same period of the sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The information contained in this press release corresponds to the narration of the objective news provided by the officials in charge of carrying out criminal investigations within the Office of the Attorney General.
