{"id":42651,"date":"2024-08-09T15:01:28","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T20:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=42651"},"modified":"2024-08-09T16:47:44","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T21:47:44","slug":"five-people-were-prosecuted-in-operation-against-extortion-in-cartagena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2024\/08\/09\/five-people-were-prosecuted-in-operation-against-extortion-in-cartagena\/","title":{"rendered":"Five people were prosecuted in operation against extortion in Cartagena"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A prosecutor appointed to Gaula of the Sectional Office in Bol\u00edvar prosecuted, in separate proceedings, five men, who are allegedly responsible for aggravated extortion with attempt in which several merchants in Cartagena were victims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision involved Wilfredo G\u00f3mez Franco, alias Tata, Roberto Carlos Burgos Moreno, Eduardo Estrada Gamero, Kevin Michel P\u00e9rez Medina and Jhon Jes\u00fas Mart\u00ednez Llenera, who did not plead guilty to the charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the investigation, the defendants, pretending to be members of criminal groups, allegedly demanded between $1,500,000 and $3,000,000 COP from businessmen in exchange for not make an attempt on their lives, on their relatives and providing them with security in their businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the victims there is a foreigner who manages a public establishment in the Villa Sandra neighborhood, the owner of a store in the Paseo Bol\u00edvar and the owner of a warehouse in La Esperanza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The people allegedly involved were caught in flagrante delicto between July 30 and August 2 by the National Police when they were receiving the money from their victims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Judges ordered in preliminary hearings that Burgos Moreno and P\u00e9rez Medina must serve prison sentences. Meanwhile, G\u00f3mez Franco and Estrada Gamero must serve house arrest, while Mart\u00ednez Llenera will continue his process under freedom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The information contained in this press release corresponds to the narration of the objective news provided by the officials in charge of carrying out criminal investigations within the Office of the Attorney General.
