The main victims of the defendant would be teachers and businessman from the rural and urban areas of Neiva.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

A judge imposed a prison sentence on Luis Carlos Carmona who participated in several extortions against teachers and merchants in Neiva (Huila).<\/span><\/p>\n

The facts took place in July when the defendant arrived at an educational institution at El Juncal, a rural area of \u200b\u200bNeiva where he claimed to be part of a paramilitary group. At the place, he approached a teacher to whom he contacted on several occasions to demand the payment of three million COP in exchange for not killing her or her family members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Carmona would also be allegedly responsible for making monetary demands of between 2 and 5 million COP from commercial premises and businessmen in the region by identifying himself as a FARC dissident.<\/span><\/p>\n

Carmona was arrested in flagrante delicto in Neiva by Gaula Police and National Army after he was allegedly found recording and taking photos of the commercial establishments that would be extorted.<\/span><\/p>\n

A specialized prosecutor charged the defendant with attempted aggravated extortion. He did not plead guilty to the charges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
