{"id":39430,"date":"2020-10-27T15:16:22","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T20:16:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=39430"},"modified":"2020-10-28T09:34:41","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T14:34:41","slug":"solving-femicide-crimes-a-priority-for-the-office-of-the-attorney-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2020\/10\/27\/solving-femicide-crimes-a-priority-for-the-office-of-the-attorney-general\/","title":{"rendered":"Solving femicide crimes, a priority for the Office of the Attorney General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><span lang=\"en-US\">Clarification of femicide crimes in the Departments of Atl\u00e1ntico and Bol\u00edvar rose to 80% and in the Department of Magdalena reached 100%.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa Delgado, in his visit to the Branch Office in Atl\u00e1ntico, reiterated the prioritization of investigations and prosecutions of crimes that affect women and children and teenagers and he also highlighted the results obtained during the last eight months.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Prosecutor Barbosa announced that three elite groups are in charge of continuing with the fight against violence against women which has allowed the clarification of 80% of the cases of femicide reported in the Departments of Atl\u00e1ntico and Bol\u00edvar, and 100% in Magdalena.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">&#8220;This Office of the Attorney General, who works for women, for children, for\u00a0\u00a0teenagers and works for public safety, speaks with results&#8221; said the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, at the end of his meeting with the sectional directors.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Attorney General Barbosa announced that in the last hours, members of the Technical Investigative Corps (Cuerpo Tecnico de Investigaci\u00f3n CTI) of Bogot\u00e1, arrested Miguel Camilo Parra Ni\u00f1o, who was hiding in a property in the municipality of Fusagasug\u00e1, and who is accused of the attempted femicide of his sentimental partner that took place in Usaqu\u00e9n, Bogot\u00e1. An anonymous source revealed his location.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">This man was searched by the authorities for the crimes of attempted aggravated femicide and domestic violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The CTI investigations determined that on October 16, Parra Ni\u00f1o had a discussion with the victim and injured her head with an axe. On October 17, the alleged aggressor fled to the municipality of Mosquera (Cundinamarca) changing his physical appearance by cutting his hair and beard. Also, he stayed in a hotel that day.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Parra Ni\u00f1o was transferred to the Immediate Reaction Unit (Unidad de Reacci\u00f3n Inmediata URI) in Puente Aranda, Bogot\u00e1 to be examined by the Institute of Legal Medicine (Instituto de Medicina Legal). Later, he was brought before the courts located in Paloquemao to appear for a hearing*\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Results in Atl\u00e1ntico\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">So far this year, there have been 10 victims of femicides in the Department of Atl\u00e1ntico (in Barranquilla and the municipality of Soledad). Regarding this issue, the Branch Office has assigned special units of investigators and prosecutors to prioritize investigations and obtain results.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The judicial police information has shown that criminal acts have occurred in domestic, family, work and school contexts; being the majority of crimes committed by the partners or former romantic partners of the victims, whose ages range between 16 and 41 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">A case in Barranquilla:<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\"> Deimer Eduardo D\u00edaz Mendoza was charged with aggravated femicide. The defendant, who was arrested in Bogot\u00e1 was allegedly responsible for the femicide of Daniela Espitia Fl\u00f3rez, whose corpse was found in a hotel located downtown Barranquilla.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Results in Magdalena\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">So far this year, eight feminicides have been reported in the Department of Magdalena. One of the victims is member of the LGBT community whose gender was female. In this case, the alleged perpetrator was identified, and it is expected that his arrest to be in the next few hours.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The investigations have shown that Santa Marta, and the municipalities of Plato, Pivijai, Fundaci\u00f3n, El Banco and Ci\u00e9nega have been the places where these acts of violence against women for gender reasons have taken place.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">A case in Magdalena:<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\"> Ariadna, a member of the LGBT community, whose corpse was found by her relatives on the floor of her room.
