{"id":39028,"date":"2020-07-30T09:58:27","date_gmt":"2020-07-30T14:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=39028"},"modified":"2020-08-03T09:35:36","modified_gmt":"2020-08-03T14:35:36","slug":"sentenced-former-president-of-the-santander-triathlon-league-for-human-smuggling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2020\/07\/30\/sentenced-former-president-of-the-santander-triathlon-league-for-human-smuggling\/","title":{"rendered":"Sentenced former president of the Santander Triathlon League for human smuggling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">In an investigative action carried out in just four months, the Office of the Attorney General arrested, prosecuted and achieved the conviction of former president of the Santander Triathlon League, \u00d3scar Mauricio Uribe Pinilla, for designing an illegal model of consultancies to process visas to The United States, in which he modified the profiles of the applicants with false information about their socioeconomic, labor and family status.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The evidence presented by a prosecutor of the Special Directorate against Criminal Organizations was approved by the Eighth Criminal of Bucaramanga (Court hearing the case) which sentenced the former leader to 50 months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of 35 legal\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">minimum wages for the commission of human smuggling.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">After his arrest in the month of March, Uribe Pinilla pleaded guilty to the charges that the Office of the Attorney General brought against him at the time.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The investigation revealed that the defendant gave certifications of the Triathlon League<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">or the sports institute\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Instituto de Deportes de Santander<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0to his &#8216;clients&#8217; in<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">order<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">to<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">impersonate<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">them<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">as<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">high- performance<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">athletes<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">or<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">employees<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">these<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">entities<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">positions<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">such<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">as<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">doctors,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">physiotherapists,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">massage<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">therapists,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">logistics<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">staff,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">among\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">others.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">In this way, they increased the probability<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of obtaining<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">entry<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">permit<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">into<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">United<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">States<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">before<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Embassy.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The testimonies and documents which are in possession of the Office of the Attorney General show that \u00d3scar Mauricio Uribe Pinilla advised 64 people in two years. 59 of them obtained the respective visas.
