The investigative actions established by the Office of the Attorney General to affect the criminal structures responsible for crimes and damages against human rights defenders and demobilized former combatants allowed the identification and the arrest of six people who allegedly played different roles in the so-called\u00a0Pablo Jos\u00e9 Montalvo Cuitiva<\/i>\u00a0front of \u2018Clan del Golfo\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

A prosecutor from the Special Investigation Unit (Unidad Especial de Investigaci\u00f3n UEI in Spanish) charged the defendants with criminal conspiracy and drug trafficking.<\/span><\/p>\n

Likewise, a detention measure in a prison center was requested and approved by a supervisory judge.<\/span><\/p>\n

Defendants:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Ever Garc\u00eda Santos, town councillor of Riosucio (Choc\u00f3). According to the evidence, this person is known with the alias of Mario and would be responsible for extortions of businessmen and contractors and for alerting the criminal organization about the movements of the public force. For being an assistant of \u2018Clan del Golfo\u2019, he allegedly received $ 2,500,000 per month.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Elkin Ortiz Hinestroza, alias \u2018Ara\u00f1a\u2019, a ringleader of the\u00a0Pablo Jos\u00e9 Montalvo Cuitiva\u00a0<\/i>Front – \u2018Clan del Golfo\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Am\u00e9rico Paz Torres, alias \u2018Merico\u201d, who was allegedly in charge of controlling drug trafficking activities to finance the criminal activities of the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Antonio Paz Torres, the alleged owner of the cocaine production laboratories in the region of Darien, Choc\u00f3.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Iv\u00e1n Paz Torres, accused of buying the material used to process cocaine hydrochloride.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Emiro Paz Torres, alias \u2018Mi\u00f1on\u2019. The evidence shows that he would be in charge of coordinating the shipment of drugs to Panama and Guatemala.<\/span><\/p>\n

This result is part of the project named \u2018Proyecto Riosucio Choc\u00f3\u2019, created to make progress concerning the investigation and clarification of the murder of the indigenous leader Aquileito Mecheche which took place on March 30, 2019, in Riosucio (Choc\u00f3).<\/span><\/p>\n

In this process, the Office of the Attorney General achieved the arrest and prosecution of 15 alleged members of \u2018Clan del Golfo, two of them were ringleaders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Likewise, the Special Investigation Unit linked the members of the\u00a0Pablo Jos\u00e9 Montalvo substructure<\/i>\u00a0to 14 criminal actions committed against human rights defenders and Farc\u2019s former combatants who were in process of reincorporation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Office of the Attorney General has clarified 55.15% of murders of human right defenders and 47% of the crimes committed against Farc\u2019s former combatants who were in process of reincorporation.<\/span><\/p>\n
