{"id":38945,"date":"2020-07-15T09:56:12","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T14:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=38945"},"modified":"2020-07-15T09:56:12","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T14:56:12","slug":"arrested-eight-alleged-members-of-eln-structures-linked-to-the-financing-and-execution-of-the-attack-against-the-police-academy-escuela-de-cadetes-general-santander","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2020\/07\/15\/arrested-eight-alleged-members-of-eln-structures-linked-to-the-financing-and-execution-of-the-attack-against-the-police-academy-escuela-de-cadetes-general-santander\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrested eight alleged members of ELN structures linked to the financing and execution of the attack against the police academy Escuela de Cadetes General Santander"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The evidence collected in a joint work between the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Office of the Attorney General and the National Police allowed the prosecution of eight people who participated in the terrorist attack against the police academy\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Escuela de Cadetes Francisco de Paula Santander<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in the south area of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The evidence shows that the defendants would be part of two ELN structures: the fronts\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Frente de Guerra Oriental<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Frente de Guerra Urbana<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0which played different roles in the attack that caused the death of 22 cadets and injured 89 people on January 17, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Planning and execution<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">For the alleged responsibility for the planning and execution of the attack, a prosecutor from the Special Office against Criminal Organizations charged:<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Andr\u00e9s Felipe Oviedo Espinel, alias Jes\u00fas or Barbas,<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0who allegedly received direct instructions from the ELN Central Command (Comando Central COCE) to plan the attack against the academy. He was charged with murder of a protected person and attempted murder of a protected person, both of them, with a series of similar crimes, terrorism and rebellion. There is also evidence against this person that shows that he would be involved in the detonation of explosive devices against two headquarters of the pension fund\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Porvenir\u00a0<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in Bogot\u00e1 (Calle 72 and Puente Aranda), on July 2, 2015.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Angie Lorena Solano Cort\u00e9s, alias Maco<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\">, is accused of accompanying the car bomb that was detonated inside the police academy\u00a0while driving a motorcycle. She was charged with murder of a protected person, attempted murder of a protected person, acts of terrorism and rebellion. There is evidence that would link the woman to the so-called National Urban Front (Frente Urbano Nacional) and that shows she would have participated in some meetings held by the ELN in Venezuela.<\/span><br \/>\n<span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Carlos Arturo Mar\u00edn R\u00edos, alias Mar\u00edn,<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\"> who was charged with terrorism. He allegedly accompanied the car bomb while he was driving a motorcycle.<br \/>\n<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Jessica Catherine Barrientos Castilla, aka Jessica<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\">, would be a member of the Finance Commission of the ELN Front known as\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Frente de Guerra Oriental del ELN<\/i><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. She was charged with financing terrorism and acts of terrorism, and rebellion.<br \/>\n<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b><span lang=\"en-US\">Miguel Antonio Castillo Rodr\u00edguez, alias To\u00f1o,<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0owner of two cheese production and distribution companies located in Arauca and Bogot\u00e1 that allegedly helped to finance the criminal action. He was charged with financing terrorism, rebellion, and acts of terrorism.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>At the request of the prosecutor of the case, alias Jes\u00fas\u2019 or \u2018Barbas\u2019, \u2018Maco\u2019, \u2018Jessica\u2019 and \u2018To\u00f1o\u2019 must serve time in prison while Carlos Arturo Mar\u00edn R\u00edos, alias Mar\u00edn, must serve a sentence under house arrest due to his age and a special health condition.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The evidence collected in a joint work between the\u00a0Office of the Attorney General and the National Police allowed the prosecution of eight people who participated in the terrorist attack against the police academy\u00a0Escuela de Cadetes Francisco de Paula Santander\u00a0in the south area of the city.
