{"id":38833,"date":"2020-06-09T11:32:39","date_gmt":"2020-06-09T16:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=38833"},"modified":"2020-06-11T09:10:42","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T14:10:42","slug":"the-office-of-the-attorney-general-issued-a-precautionary-measure-aimed-at-carrying-out-an-assets-seizure-process-on-properties-of-businessman-alex-saab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2020\/06\/09\/the-office-of-the-attorney-general-issued-a-precautionary-measure-aimed-at-carrying-out-an-assets-seizure-process-on-properties-of-businessman-alex-saab\/","title":{"rendered":"The Office of the Attorney General issued a precautionary measure aimed at carrying out an assets seizure process* on properties of businessman \u00c1lex Saab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><i><span lang=\"en-US\">The properties and lots seized, valued at 35 billion, are located in Barranquilla (Atl\u00e1ntico).<\/span><\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Attorney General&#8217;s Office identified assets which belonged to businessman Alex Na\u00edn Saab Mor\u00e1n and that were obtained through irregular financial operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">In this sense, a prosecutor of the Special Office on Assets Forfeiture issued\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-CA\">precautionary measures such as suspension of power to alienate a property and a seizure process<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0on seven properties and lots located in exclusive areas of Barranquilla (Atlantico) whose value exceeded $35 billion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The assets seized were a mansion 28 billion worth in Riomar sector, two lots, a house, an apartment and three garages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">measure aimed at\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-CA\">suspending the\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">power to alienate a property was registered in the Office of Public Instruments Registry (Oficina de Instrumentos P\u00fablicos) to avoid the sale of the properties before their seizure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Office of the Attorney General established that properties were held in the partnership\u2019s name which served as a fa\u00e7ade to hide Alex Saab\u2019s resources that were obtained through a company with\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">which he made fictitious imports and exports. This represented losses to the Colombian State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">*(Extinci\u00f3n del Derecho de Dominio in Spanish) which means a loss of ownership of property derived from or used in criminal activity and therefore, the property is seized or recovered<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0by the government\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The properties and lots seized, valued at 35 billion, are located in Barranquilla (Atl\u00e1ntico).
