{"id":38742,"date":"2020-05-08T20:57:03","date_gmt":"2020-05-09T01:57:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=38742"},"modified":"2020-05-13T09:34:29","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T14:34:29","slug":"exemplary-prison-sentence-against-alias-el-enfermero-who-carried-out-abortions-on-members-of-illegal-armed-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2020\/05\/08\/exemplary-prison-sentence-against-alias-el-enfermero-who-carried-out-abortions-on-members-of-illegal-armed-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"Exemplary prison sentence against alias El Enfermero who carried out abortions on members of illegal armed groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>#HayJusticia<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Attorney General&#8217;s Office proved before a court that H\u00e9ctor Albeidis Arboleda Buitrago, alias\u00a0<i>El Enfermero<\/i>, committed serious acts against human rights since he carried out abortions on an undetermined number of women who were part of the ELN and the so-called group\u00a0<\/span><i>Ej\u00e9rcito Revolucionario Guevarista\u00a0<\/i>(ERG).<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">In this sense, the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0Special Court of Pereira (Risaralda) sentenced alias\u00a0<i>El Enfermero<\/i>\u00a0to 40 years and 9 months in prison for the crimes of forced abortion in protected person and torture in protected person committed in series.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The evidence obtained by a prosecutor from the Special Office against Violations of Human Rights showed that Arboleda Buitrago committed crimes between 1997 and 2004, in the areas of Risaralda, Caldas, Antioquia, Choc\u00f3 and Valle del Cauca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">In the course of the investigation, nearly 40 testimonies of victims were obtained, many of them minors, Embera Cham\u00ed indigenous people and Afro-descendant communities. All the statements agreed about: \u201calias El Enfermero sold himself to the highest bidder. He acted as a \u2018mercenary\u2019 who indiscriminately interrupted pregnancies for personal gain, a gain which was a product of pain and of putting women\u00b4s lives at risk\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">As a matter of fact, the Office of the Attorney General stated in different speeches that the defendant acted deliberately, systematically, and massively against women\u00b4s rights and dignity.
