{"id":38706,"date":"2020-04-27T16:29:17","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T21:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=38706"},"modified":"2020-04-29T18:41:21","modified_gmt":"2020-04-29T23:41:21","slug":"press-release-219","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2020\/04\/27\/press-release-219\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release 219"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"_2le66D_cFAbkq67CrgZcmE\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"wide-content-host\">\n<div class=\"B1IVVpQay0rPzznhParFr KcNy0Xfd9-is-_CEp3QOI\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"_3U2q6dcdZCrTrR_42Nxby JWNdg1hee9_Rz6bIGvG1c allowTextSelection\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">On April 23rd, the Office of the Attorney General charged the mayor of Popay\u00e1n, Juan Carlos L\u00f3pez Castrill\u00f3n for the alleged offense of misrepresentation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">This fact which is considered a serious offense by the Colombian justice, was brought before the competent judges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Today, the Office of the Attorney General, within the framework of a rights-based position, decided to withdraw the request of preventive detention against the local official considering that \u201calthough the conduct which is investigated constitutes a serious offense, the conditions established in articles 308 and following in the Colombian Criminal Procedure Code to impose such a measure have not been fulfilled, that is, that the defendant could pose a danger to the victim or the community, that might obstruct justice or that he will not appear during the process&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Furthermore, taking into account that\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Decree 593 of April 24, 2020, extended the mandatory preventive isolation until May 11, 2020, an additional\u00a0freedom restrictive measure\u00a0has been considered as unnecessary in this case<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Notwithstanding the aforementioned, the mayor of Popay\u00e1n, Juan Carlos L\u00f3pez\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Castrill\u00f3n will be linked to the process as a defendant and an indictment will be filed against him for the above-mentioned offense.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The Office of the Attorney General makes this information public for reasons of general interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April 23rd, the Office of the Attorney General charged the mayor of Popay\u00e1n, Juan Carlos L\u00f3pez Castrill\u00f3n for the alleged offense of misrepresentation.
