{"id":34013,"date":"2014-09-13T15:19:08","date_gmt":"2014-09-13T20:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/?p=34013"},"modified":"2014-09-16T14:33:48","modified_gmt":"2014-09-16T19:33:48","slug":"inquiries-will-be-conducted-into-board-of-directors-from-gimnasio-castillo-campestre-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fiscalia.gov.co\/colombia\/en\/2014\/09\/13\/inquiries-will-be-conducted-into-board-of-directors-from-gimnasio-castillo-campestre-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Inquiries will be conducted into board of directors from Gimnasio Castillo Campestre school"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Colombian Attorney General Office assigned several distinguished CTI prosecutors to investigate the death of David Urrego Reyes, a student<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>from Gimnasio Castillo Campestre school located in Tenjo who committed suicide last august 4<sup>th<\/sup>, 2014 since (according to letters he wrote to his relatives) he faced discrimination acts at school due to his sexual preference.<\/p>\n<p>The senior official, Eduardo Montealegre Lynett stated during a press release that in regard to the development of the case, the Attorney General\u00b4s Office summoned the director, the psychologist and a teacher from the institution in order to be interrogated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese people were summoned in order to explain the context, previous and following circumstances to this suicide\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General\u00b4s Office ordered to conduct inspections at the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF), Departmental Education Secretary in Cundinamarca and also at the above mentioned school.<\/p>\n<p>The Attorney General send a message to all school directors in the country, parents and students: \u201cthe Colombian criminal legislation penalizes discrimination acts. Schools cannot invade students\u2019 privacy since there is a fundamental right: free development of personality. School directors cannot interfere with students private fields\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Montealegre Lynett emphasized that in those cases where damages to students\u2019 integrity are committed due to discrimination acts, school directors could be liable for omission and damages.<\/p>\n<p>This investigation is supported by forensic psychologists.
